Report on the shipbuilding sector in Spain. The Spanish shipbuilding industry represents approximately 2% of the global sector and is ranked fourth in Europe behind Germany, France and Italy. The structure of Spanish production is primarily based around European ship-owners. In order to maintain their position in the market, Spanish shipbuilders have made significant technological investment in processes and products, incorporating new materials, modern propulsion systems and new electronic systems in collaboration with the equipment supply industry which has led to greater vertical integration.
