Spanish-Moroccan Business Investment and Cooperation Forum

TANGIERS  7/2/07  , 7/3/07

The Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX) is organizing this event through the Trade Commissions of Spain in Rabat and Casablanca in collaboration with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Tangiers.

This event is a continuation of the work begun with the business investment and cooperation forums held in Tangiers in 2001, 2003 and 2004, and in Casablanca in 2006. Its principal objective is to help identify business investment and cooperation opportunities as well as potential partners in Morocco, especially in the country’s northern region. Those attending the event will have direct contact with business people from this market who are interested in establishing strategic alliances with Spanish companies.

Morocco has a relatively diversified economy and a solid macroeconomic policy highlighted by eight years of positive economic growth. The opening up of its economy to foreign companies is based on numerous free trade agreements that it has signed with countries in the region and in the Near East; the association agreement with the EU, which will end in a free trade zone for industrial products on both sides of the straight in 2012; and the free trade agreement between Morocco and the United States which will become a platform for accessing the American market. The legal reforms carried out to encourage foreign investment and to guarantee the repatriation of profits and capital, the availability of labor and a strong Spanish presence are just some of the attractions of this market. The Tangiers-Tetuan region on the north west coast of Morocco is the most dynamic area in the region and is undergoing a comprehensive modernization process.

The creation of a new tax-free area for exports in Tangiers, the establishment of new industrial parks, the construction of the Tangiers Mediterranean port and the awarding of management contracts for various public services to private companies in Tangiers and Tetuan, several of which have been awarded to Spanish companies, are just some of the projects underway and that contribute to creating a favorable environment for any investor interested in this region.
