 Description:

Inspired by the Competition held in the United Kingdom and the magazine OLN, the “Spain’s 100 Best Wines in the Netherlands” Awards have been created with the aim of selecting those Spanish wines that are best adapted to this market, as well as a special selection among wines seeking an importer.

The main objective of Wines from Spain –with the collaboration of the specialized magazine, ‘Perswijn', is to position Spain as a modern wine-producing country that produces contemporary, quality wines with their own identity, through the selection and subsequent announcement of 100 of its best wines. It intends to attract strong attention to Spanish wines, boosting knowledge of the brands. For this reason, the competition is targeted principally at wines already present in the Netherlands, as the precise objective of the competition is to consolidated their presence.

The jury that will select the ‘Spain’s 100 Best Wines in the Netherlands’ will comprise twelve experts and will be presided by Ronald de Groot, a renowned and respected wine expert, who is the editor-in-chief of Perswijn. Following the classification of the different wines participating in the competition, they will be tasted blind, organized by price band and the eighteen categories established. Spain’s 100 Best Wines in the Netherlands will be announced in line with the tasting ratings and the competition will end with the selection of the winners of each category, including that of the “Best Label Design”. There will also be special awards for the best white and red wines not distributed on the market.

The promotional announcement of this first event will be made through the publication of the lists of Spanje’s 100 Mooiste Wijnen in Nederland in the magazine, ‘Perswijn’ in May 2008; a supplement will be published in ‘Perswijn’, which will be fully dedicated to the Competition in September and an important award-giving ceremony will be held exclusively for the press and special guests. Additionally, the wines selected will be presented at wine events organized by ‘Perswijn’ (for example, "Klassiek Europa").

The deadline for applications to compete and for the receipt of samples is 31 January 2008. Four bottles per sample registered are required.
