| The tenth edition of the Puerto Rico International Book Fair (FIL-PR) will run from 13 to 18 November. The fair’s theme is “Children’s and Adolescent Literature” and it aims to encourage children to read from an early age.
This annual event makes Puerto Rico a meeting point for educators, editors, booksellers, distributors, and writers of books in Spanish.
For the second year running the Puerto Rico Institute of Culture (ICP) is helping to organize this literary encounter.
An award ceremony will be held on 14 November with prizes for several well-known people such as the actor, film-maker and poet Jacobo Morales, who will be receiving the National Grand Prize.
In 2007 Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Mexico (through publishers Siglo XXI) participated for the first time, as did the United States with the attendance of delegates from the Dominican and Puerto Rican community of New York.
Representatives from 126 publishing houses as well as those from Spanish ministries and regional governments also attended. There was further international representation with the participation of members of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (Clasco), who led the encounter “Latin America, building the future today”.
