| In just 11 years, WOMEX has grown from 200 to over 2.000 delegates, making it the most anticipated, productive and successful event of the World Music year. But such stature brings inevitable adjustments. For one, there just aren't many venues big enough to host us, so we've decided to stop vagabonding around Europe the way we used to, trying out first this venue, then that one... It's far better to improve upon the ones that have worked best than to start fresh in each new location. When it came to Womex 2006, we thought back fondly to our biggest event so far and opted to return to our 2003 home, Sevilla, Andalusia, Spain. But with a few key enhancements.
This year, all events - the trade fair, the conference and the showcases - will be held under a single expansive roof. All events will take place in the tried and trusted FIBES, where added to the conference rooms and vast trade fair hall we already know, we'll be taking over the concert halls as well. Large, medium and intimate spaces will offer ideal settings for the varied artists invited to showcase. And, with everything housed in one place, there will be no dashing from one side of town to the other with a mad rush to catch dinner in between. Even Sevilla itself is conspiring to make our lives easier. This year there will be fewer queues for taxis and fewer interminable bus rides now that the city has opened a new train station that takes us right to FIBES' front door. We're so excited by the return to the bewitching capital of Andalusia that we've reserved FIBES not for one, but for two WOMEX editions - in 2006 and 2007. We even have an option for 2008.
