The Spanish Association of Railroad Material, Equipment and Services Manufacturers (Mafex) aims to promote the export of Spanish rail technology and associated services to Turkey and Egypt, two developing countries in which significant investments are expected to modernize their transportation networks. With this objective, the association, in collaboration with ICEX, organized a trade mission to both countries, where Spanish rain industry companies have great interest in working on the development of the transportation networks in these countries.
In Egypt, the plans of the national real company ENR include modernization projects for the signaling systems to improve safety for traffic on lines such as Bani Suef-Asiut. These initiatives are part of the National Rail Network Reconstruction project. The future plans in the North African country also include a possible high-speed line to connect the tourist zones. Finally, the construction of a tunnel under the Sinai is also of great interest for the Spanish sector. The participation of Spanish companies in these projects would help reinforce their presence in Egypt, a market in which companies such as Amurrio Ferrocarril, Arcelor Mittal España, Ikus, Teknorail Systems, Fainsa and Fez, among others, are already working.
Meanwhile, in recent years Spanish companies have also played an important role in Turkey, through their participation in projects such as the country's first high-speed line connecting Ankara and Istanbul, or the subways of Antalya and Istanbul.
