Panamahas signed an agreement with Spain as part of the Business Opportunities Network for Poor Families program, the aim of which is to reduce poverty levels in the rural areas of this country.
The agreement, which will be coordinated by the United Nations Development Program by (UNDP), has a budget of US$8 million donated by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), according to a press release issued by this body.
The resources to be used in this program are part of a fund submitted by Spain to the UNDP in order to help achieve the Millennium Goals, one of which is to reduce poverty.
Panama has one of the worst imbalances in Latin America in terms of concentration of wealth, despite its high levels of growth over recent years.
