The engineering firm Getinsa has been awarded a contract to manage and oversee construction works on the Nao Bai-Lao Cai freeway, in Vietnam, according to the Spanish daily newspaper Cinco Días. The contract is worth US$20 million (€13.3 million), making this the largest technical assistance highways contract granted to a Spanish firm in the whole of South East Asia.
The project is being paid for by the Vietnam Expressway Company (VEC), and is receiving funding from the Asian Development Bank.
The freeway will be 244 kilometers long, and will run from the suburbs of Hanoi to the Chinese border. Getinsa’s will oversee the works and monitor infrastructure quality and equipment-hiring processes. The Spanish company will work with subcontracted firms such as local engineering companies Hafico and Apeco, and India’s Vision-ri.
Getinsa has a presence in Saudi Arabia, and works in Asia out of the Philippines, and in the Americas from its base in the Dominican Republic.
