The Spanish company FCC, through its Austrian subsidiary, Alpine, has been awarded two contracts to modernize two railway lines in Bosnia, worth a combined €85 million, according to a statement by the company.
The works relate to the line that connects Sarajevo and Ploce, which is 99 kilometers long, and a section of the line that connects Kostajnica with Josavka, which is 65 kilometers long.
The works on the Sarajevo-Ploce line are being financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which is providing 45% of the budget, while the remaining 55% is being contributed by the European Investment bank (EIB). Alpine will carry out the modernization works on this route, which are highly technical due to the large number of tunnels and bridges, as part of a consortium with Swietelsky.
The contract for the Kostajnica-Josavka line involves the renovation of the 65 kilometer Banja Luka-Doboj section worth €33.9 million. In this project, 45% of this amount will be provided by EBRD and the remaining 55% by the EIB. Alpine will also work with Swietelsky on this contract.
