India is gaining interest in Spanish wood products, as the Spanish Confederation of Woodworking Industries, Confemadera, found out during a direct trade mission to India, undertaken as part of the 2009 export plan for the wood manufacturing sector.
The outcome of the mission was positive, and future commercial agreements are expected to be established to trade products between the two countries. Seven companies took part in this initiative – Financiera Maderera, Fibras del Noroeste, Artalda, Andreu World, Molduras Jeyma, Julián Molina and Taor–Ideatec.
These firms, together with a technical expert from Confemadera, held meetings with architecture and interior design studios, residential housing and office construction companies, hotels, convention centers, hospitals, schools, supermarkets, furniture stores, showrooms of the leading companies involved in furniture manufacturing and sales, and others, in the cities of Mumbai and Bangalore.
Of all the furniture manufactured in India, 65% is made of wood, both domestic and imported, with imports coming mainly from countries in South East Asia and Europe.
