The Spanish company Talgo will compete with the French Alstom-SCNF consortium and the German-Saudi group Siemens-Bin Laden-Deustche Bahn (DB) for the “high speed pilgrimage”, the high speed train that will connect Jeddah, Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia, according to the website of MAFEX, the Spanish association of exporting railway services, material and equipment manufacturers.
The bids to operate the future railway line also include a South Korean group and a Chinese group, which must submit their proposals before the end of January, according to the mid-October digital edition of Challenges magazine.
The selected groups will have until June 2010 to draw up a financial plan and the winner will be responsible for supplying the material and for maintaining and operating the line between 2014 and 2026. The trains have to travel at more than 300 kph and the line will be 444 kilometers long.
