Endesa’s Irish power plants in Tarbert and Great Island have been audited by the Irish ISO 14001 certification entity, successfully passing the review process, which accredits that its activities are environmentally friendly, according to a statement by the Spanish energy company.
Once certification has been achieved, Endesa Ireland will launch various projects aimed at environmental excellence in order to reduce water consumption and other auxiliary inputs. The plants in Rhode and Tawnaghmore will then be audited for ISO 14001 certification in 2010.
Endesa Ireland recently began the authorization process to substitute the fuel generators with a higher capacity, which will use natural gas, reducing the specific CO2 emission ratio of the plants by more than 50%.
Endesa is the second largest operator in Ireland, with 16% of the total installed capacity and an operational generation capacity of 1,068 megawatts, following its acquisition of 20% of the generation assets of the state ESB electricity company.
