Spanish company Lladró was responsible for designing the ceramic figure of Our Lady of Divine Providence, the patroness of Puerto Rico, which will go on sale on 19 November, in commemoration of the 516 anniversary of the discovery of the island of Puerto Rico.
According to a press release from the company, the piece will be presented at its New York shop by sculptor Juan Ignacio Aliena, who will give a demonstration of the techniques used in creating the image of the Virgin. The sculpture is valued at $1,500.
The idea came about following a visit to Puerto Rico by Ángeles Lladró, a member of the company’s Executive Committee, who heard from the Puerto Ricans themselves about the importance of this Virgin to them and of their desire to have her in a sculpture. The sculpture of Our Lady of Divine Providence will also be presented in Miami on 20 November at the Lladró shop.
