Spanish company Iberdrola Ingeniería is bidding on a multimillion-dollar contract in the Arab emirate of Dubai, which includes the construction of a combined-cycle plant with 1,500 megawatts of power, reports information website América Economía.com.
The project is part of a public tender put out by the state-owned Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), which also includes the construction of a desalination plant in the emirate, valued at 10 billion dirhams ($2.7 billion).
Iberdrola is competing with Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction and Saipem, although the Spanish company’s prices is lower than those presented by its rivals. The result of the tender should be made public early next year.
If Iberdrola has the winning bid, the company would consolidate its position even more in the Middle East, where it is also building the largest combined-cycle plant in the region, with 2,000 megawatts, in the town of Mesaieed, Qatar.
