Regalía de Ollauri, the first Spanish wine producer in the world to use geothermal energy for wine making

Regalía de Ollauri, the first Spanish wine producer in the world to use geothermal energy for wine making

Bodegas Regalía de Ollauri has become the first wine producer in the world to use energy from the ground, called geothermal energy, for making its wines.

According to the winery, its system for making wine is now the least polluting on the planet. Sapje, a company with a long history in geothermal energy research and use, was commissioned to carry out the project.

Geothermal energy is a totally clean source of energy and is stored under the earth’s surface in the form of heat. Wineries and cellars have been constructed underground for centuries to make the most of this heat.

This popular wisdom combined with science gave rise to Versum, the new wine from Bodegas Regalía de Ollauri and the first wine in the world made using geothermal energy.
