Hochtief, the German group owned by the Spanish company ACS, has been awarded the contract to construct a railway line across the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, to be used for transporting coal, worth €207 million, according to the group.
The contract includes the construction of the 225 kilometer line as well as its subsequent maintenance for a four year period through its Leighton subsidiary.
The contract coincides with Hochtief winning an extension to a contract to operate a coal mine, also in Mongolia, until 2015, worth an additional €119 million.
