CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) has signed a contract to supply 30 streetcars over the next three years to the Serbian city of Belgrade for €70 million.
According to the Spanish company, the streetcars measure a total of 33 meters long and 2.3 meters wide per unit, with a maximum transportation capacity of 242 passengers.
These units are based on the new family of URBOS streetcars developed by CAF with the experience obtained in recent years on projects such as those in the Spanish cities of Bilbao, Seville, Malaga, Zaragoza and Vitoria, or others such as Antalya, Turkey; Edinburgh, United Kingdom; and Houston, United States.
The city of Belgrade has a population of over 1.8 million and it inaugurated the first line of the transportation system over 80 years ago. These new units will serve to renew the city’s fleet of streetcars.
This project is very important for the company strategically, since it represents CAF’s debut in Eastern Europe.
