Spanish table olive exports grow by 6.7% from January to September

Spanish exports of table olives continued to grow in overseas markets between January and September of this year to stand at a figure of 201,426 metric tons, worth €444,616,000, according to data provided by the Table Olive Exporters Association (Asemesa).

The most striking area highlighted in the report is the increase in sales within the European Union, which have already reached 91,718 metric tons in exports, representing an increase of 10.8% over the same period last year.

This positive development has been mirrored in Arab countries, where Spanish companies have sold a total of 15,053 metric tons this year – in other words 47% more than in 2007 – followed by the markets of Central and South America, which have imported 6,406 metric tons of olives from Spain, an increase of 16%.

However, the picture has been rather different in terms of exports to the United States, which stand at 48,100 metric tons, and Puerto Rico at 1,162 metric tons, representing a decline of 1.26% and 9.41%, respectively. In Canada, however, imports have recovered to stand at a total of 5,550 metric tons, an increase of almost 9% with respect to last year.

Finally, another significant figure is the growth of 28% in exports to Australia, which stand at 3,576 metric tons, representing an increase of 28%.
