Spanish fruit and vegetable exports reached €5,616 million in the year to September, an increase of 4.25% compared to the same period of 2007, according to data published by the Spanish Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Exporter Associations (Fepex) reported by Europa Press.
Exports of vegetables over the 9-month period totalled 2.9 million tons, up 11% compared to the same period of the previous year. Export revenue remained unchanged at €2,324 million.
In the first nine months of 2008 fruit exports reached 3.6 million tons, 11% more than the previous year. In value, the figure was €3,291 million, up 7.6%.
Spain is the world's leading exporter of fruit and vegetables and one of the top producer countries. In 2007 Spain exported a total of 9.5 million tons of fruit and vegetables, worth €7,686 million.
